Dear church,
There is a difference between temptation and sin. Temptation constantly bombards us, giving us the choice of yielding to it or fighting against it; sin is the result of giving in to temptation. The roots of our daily, even moment-by-moment temptation can be put into two categories: temptations from within us and temptations that come from outside sources. Jesus warns us of this in Luke 17:1-10.
Making war against sin is the serious business of the Christian life. The weapon God has given us is faith. Faith is not only the belief God will save you, it is the present assurance He already has! Trust in the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings the freedom to stand against sin. If you know you have been saved, you are free to choose godly living, pursue holiness, and encourage others to run from sin. You are also free to forgive others when you have been wronged.
God has given us each other to help us battle sin. Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Praise God for this gracious provision. Let’s take every advantage of it! This Sunday we’re going to gather together to glorify God, encourage one another, and fight sin. It’s important for each of our walks with the Lord that we be a part of it. If you have a friend who needs this kind of encouragement and community, bring them with you. You will be glad you did.
For the sake of His name,
Pastor Adam
