Missions

The missions year at Our Saviour runs from November to October, and the missions fund is separate from the general fund.  Each fall the missions team holds a missions commitment drive by appealing to the congregation to support the proposed budget for the new year.  Individuals and families then turn in anonymous slips with the amount they intend to give to missions during the upcoming year.  In conjunction with the commitment drive, a Missions Sunday is held every October, obviously with a special focus on missions.

The missions budget is based on the total amount of the commitments received. Of the total amount, less than 20 percent could be characterized as local.  In other words, the emphasis is primarily on foreign missions.  Local missions involve AWANA and outreach to poverty youth.  Non-local but state-side ministries include college campuses in Arizona and a Hispanic church on the south-side of Chicago.  Foreign missions extend to France, Ukraine, Jordan, Niger, Mozambique, the Stan countries, India, Mongolia, and eastern Asia.  The missions budget is also used to support short-term missions.
