Many Christians struggle to find the right balance between remorse over their sin and believing they have been forgiven and cleansed through the blood of Jesus Christ. This leads to the extremes of a laissez-faire attitude toward sin with no felt need to battle it or the despair of feeling like God cannot love and accept you. 1 John 1:5-2:2 speaks to each of these predominant beliefs while teaching us how to embrace the love of God and count the cost of ongoing sin. 1 John is a book for the Christian life. These verses are central to its message. I hope you will be there as we celebrate the good news of life through Jesus, rejoice that God is light, and encourage one another to flee darkness this Sunday morning. See you in church!
